With the facilitation of Ezgi Koman and Yüce Yöney, children’s place in media, themes and discourses used in representing children, children’s participation in media and children’s rights based journalism were discussed.

As part of “Media Watch on Hate Speech” project, with the participation of Ezgi Koman and Şeyma Özkan, the report examining children’s representation in media was presented in a panel held on December 24 in Havak Hall.

In the workshop, how hate speech is generated and spread in social media and the possible methods for creating an alternative language to combat such discourse is discussed under the facilitation of Prof.Dr. Aslı Tunç.

Media watch report covering the January-April 2018 period and including quantitative and qualitative analyses of instances of hate speech against national, ethnic and religious identities is published.

The speakers of the panel which was moderated by journalist Işın Eliçin, were the editor of journo.com.tr and academician Orhan Şener and Doğruluk Payı Digital Operations Coordinator Denizcan Sarı.

In the panel moderated by KONDA Director Bekir Ağırdır, issued as part of the Media Watch on Hate Speech project, findings of media monitoring in 2017 and discriminatory discourse reports were presented. 

In the news discussion workshop held on March 31, 2018, the role of the media in the production of discriminatory discourse concerning women and LGBTI is discussed under the facilitation of İdil Engindeniz.

The findings concerning printed press in Turkey between May-August 2017 and the discriminatory discourse report, 'Giaour' Discourse in Print Media was presented with a panel discussion moderated by İdil Engindeniz.

Moderated by Çiçek Tahaoğlu, women and LGBTI news editor at bianet, the panel was held with the participation of Pınar Büyüktaş from Association for Combating Sexual Violence, and Yıldız Tar from KAOS GL.

The report titled "Giaour Discourse in Print Media" examines how the word ‘giaour’ is used in a context within which non-Muslim identities are associated with mercilessness, cruelty and enmity.

Media watch report covering the May-August 2017 period and including quantitative and qualitative analyses of instances of hate speech against national, ethnic and religious identities is published.

The report titled "Discriminatory Discourse in News Stories on Murders of Transgender Women" aims to explore discriminatory discourse against transgender people in terms of the way murders of transgender women are covered.

In the news discussion workshop held on 30 September 2017, the role of the media in the production of discriminatory discourse concerning refugees is discussed under the facilitation of Ülkü Doğanay.

The video made within the scope of Media Watch on Hate Speech project includes a selection of the news items that incites discrimination and hatred against Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Media Watch on Hate Speech Project’s findings concerning Turkish printed press between January-April 2017 was presented on June 19, 2017 in Havak Hall with a panel discussion moderated by İdil Engindeniz.
