About the host organisation: Sistema Armenia Cultural Foundation was established in 2013 with the aim of bringing more ensemble music-making to Armenia and strengthening communities. Initially focused on creating classical orchestras, the need to be more independent from local music schools led the Foundation to open Nexus Center for the Arts in 2016 — a place in central Yerevan where people from all walks of life can come together to create, teach music, attend lectures, and take part in gatherings, jam sessions and residencies with artists from around the world. During the 2020 war, Nexus became a meeting point for young musicians from Artsakh and local and international musicians, offering a therapeutic space for musical conversation. In January 2025, Nexus Center implemented a US State Department-funded project bringing together musicians from Armenia, Georgia and Türkiye, and it currently works with UNICEF to provide psychosocial support to youth displaced from Artsakh in 2023.

Proposed fellowship: Nexus Center for the Arts in Yerevan is open to hosting residencies for artists from Türkiye. About the host organisation: Founded in 1935 and located in Yerevan, the Fundamental Scientific Library is Armenia's largest specialised academic repository and a major centre for scientific information. Its collection includes more than three million library units across the natural, technical and humanitarian sciences, including over 800,000 foreign-language publications, Armenian studies materials, rare prints from the 16th–18th centuries, and personal collections of prominent Armenian scientists and cultural figures. The Library preserves and digitises Armenian scientific literature, develops bibliographies and open-access repositories, and cooperates with international institutions, including on research into Armenian books preserved in Istanbul and a bibliographic database of Armenogram-Turkish publications (Turkish-language works written in the Armenian script).

Proposed fellowship: The Library is actively documenting the bibliography of Armenian printed heritage preserved within Turkish libraries — a vastly under-examined field. Earlier phases produced a published bibliography of Armenian books held by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Taksim Atatürk Library (1,766 titles) and analysis of the Armenian book collection at the Armenian Patriarchate in Istanbul. The Library's immediate goal is to host a visiting researcher to help analyse its digital collection of over 2,000 Armeno-Turkish books and periodicals. The fellow will be responsible for annotating these publications in English and compiling concise biographical profiles of the authors, with a view to long-term cooperation mapping Armenian collections throughout Turkish libraries.

About the host organisation: Armenian Progressive Youth (APY) is a youth-led civil society organisation dedicated to empowering young people to become active, informed and responsible citizens. Since its establishment in 2009, APY has designed and implemented hundreds of projects across all regions of Armenia, in partnership with international organisations, government institutions, municipalities, educational institutions and civil society actors. Through non-formal education, policy advocacy, volunteering and community engagement, APY works on youth participation and democratic governance, employability and entrepreneurship, digital and AI skills, climate action and environmental sustainability, human rights, social inclusion, mental health and well-being, peacebuilding and community resilience.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow will be integrated into APY's Environment and Climate related projects, contributing to youth-focused climate, biodiversity and cross-border cooperation initiatives between January and July 2027, combining project implementation, facilitation, research, international cooperation and community engagement. Under the supervision of APY's programme team, the fellow will co-design and facilitate online exchanges within APY's Planet One international project (bringing together young people from four countries around climate justice, biodiversity conservation and youth participation); prepare educational materials and facilitate interactive workshops in APY Youth Centres across Armenia; mentor young participants and document good practices; contribute to educational resources and toolkits; conduct comparative research on youth engagement in environmental and climate policies in Armenia and Türkiye; support public events and networking meetings promoting Armenian-Turkish youth dialogue; and produce communication materials showcasing youth-led environmental initiatives.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow is encouraged to combine their own research interests with the Department's key research areas — diaspora studies, minority studies and cultural heritage — deepening scientific dialogue, academic diplomacy and civil society bridges between Armenia and Türkiye. About the host organisation: FemLibrary is an independent, community-led queer feminist collective that creates a safe and welcoming space for queer feminist organising, resistance and knowledge production. It connects Armenian feminists across diverse movements and organisations, challenging patriarchy and other intersecting systems of oppression through intersectional feminist knowledge, critical dialogue and creative activism. At its heart is a growing public collection of books on feminism, gender and sexuality, queer studies, political philosophy, human rights and anticolonial thought, alongside lectures, discussions, exhibitions, reading groups, workshops, and translation and publishing of feminist and decolonial texts in Armenian.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow will contribute to FemLibrary's day-to-day activities and strategic development through organisational, research and community engagement tasks: supporting fundraising through grant research and proposal development; strengthening partnerships and outreach with feminist libraries and organisations across the region, including Türkiye; translating materials between Armenian, English and Turkish; organising public events, workshops and discussions; cataloguing the library's growing collection; and conducting research on feminist literature, archives and regional feminist movements. About the host organisation: The Cultural and Social Narratives Laboratory (CSN Lab) is an interdisciplinary cultural and research organisation founded in Armenia in 2018. Working at the intersection of culture, research, education and civil society, CSN Lab promotes democratic participation, cultural rights, social justice and regional dialogue through research-based cultural practices, bringing together expertise in cultural analysis, human rights, literary and memory studies, architecture and urban studies, environmental anthropology and migration studies to develop interdisciplinary research projects, educational programmes, exhibitions, conferences, artist residencies and public discussions.

Proposed fellowship: CSN Lab welcomes researchers, artists and activists whose practices explore the complexities of coexistence, living together (vivre-ensemble) and cohabitation from artistic, architectural, urban, human rights and other interdisciplinary perspectives. About the host organisation: Women's Fund Armenia (WFA) is a national feminist fund that supports grassroots feminist organisations, women-led initiatives, activists and women human rights defenders across Armenia through participatory grantmaking, flexible and core funding, emergency support, capacity strengthening, research and movement building. A central part of WFA's work is the Gardens of Silihdar, its feminist healing, learning and community space in Ashtarak outside Yerevan — a space bringing together healing justice, feminist education, ecological practices, community gardening and intergenerational learning through retreats, workshops and community gatherings exploring gender justice, care, climate change, biodiversity and sustainable livelihoods.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow will support the development of a community medicinal herb garden at the Gardens of Silihdar, working with WFA staff, local women, activists, gardeners and invited specialists to prepare planting areas, select suitable plants and advise on sustainable cultivation, harvesting, drying, storage and propagation. The fellow will also facilitate practical workshops for local women on identifying and cultivating healing herbs, traditional uses of herbs, and preparing herbal teas, infused oils and dried herb mixtures — while distinguishing clearly between traditional knowledge and medical treatment. A key focus is the exchange of knowledge about herbs and plant-based healing traditions shared across Armenia and Türkiye. Expected outputs include an established herb garden, a seasonal cultivation plan, practical workshops, guidance materials and recommendations for the garden's long-term sustainability.

About the host organisation: BirdLinks Armenia's mission is to preserve the unique diversity of birds, butterflies and their habitats in Armenia by introducing sustainable resource use and balanced relationships between natural ecosystems and human activities. Its strategic goals include developing community- and volunteer-based bird and butterfly monitoring schemes; designating and supporting protected areas; developing birdwatching and butterfly-watching tourism; adapting environmentally friendly technologies; and contributing to natural resource management policy. The team includes zoologists, statisticians, GIS specialists, marketing specialists, tour guides and a volunteer coordinator, with more than 6,800 members and over 1,000 active volunteers.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow will participate in collecting, analysing and formalising data on White Storks and waterbirds, supporting the Armenian team by travelling to populated areas of the Ararat Plain and Shirak Plateau to count White Storks, visiting wetland areas to count waterbirds, conducting surveys per monitoring protocols, supporting data entry and basic statistical analysis, contributing to a scientific article and technical report, assisting with the literature review, and delivering a closing seminar sharing their experience and findings from Armenia.

It includes a concert hall, permanent and temporary exhibition spaces, a research centre, a library and a publishing unit. The Research Centre conducts systematic research into Komitas's life, work and archival materials, with particular emphasis on the historical and theoretical aspects of Armenian folk and sacred music, and publishes scholarly works, exhibition catalogues, sheet music and research collections.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow will conduct the first comprehensive ethnomusicological study of the non-Armenian folk song repertoire collected, transcribed and preserved by Komitas Vardapet, with a particular focus on Turkish, Kurdish and other Anatolian musical traditions. The research includes a detailed musical analysis (modal structures, melodic characteristics, rhythmic patterns, ornamentation) comparing Komitas's transcriptions, and an investigation of the contemporary survival of these songs in present-day Türkiye through comparative research and consultation with specialists and performers. Its priorities include protecting and promoting Armenian cultural heritage, advancing digital transformation through large-scale digitisation, and strengthening international partnerships.

Proposed fellowship: The fellowship will focus on the systematic identification, documentation and bibliographic description of historically and culturally significant materials in Turkish, Armenian written in Turkish script, Ottoman Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish held in the Library's collections — representing an important source for the region's shared and interconnected cultural, literary and historical heritage. The fellow will work with Library specialists to examine and assess selected materials, record and standardise bibliographic data, prepare detailed bibliographic descriptions (authorship, title, place and date of publication, publisher, language), and transcribe and translate title pages and essential bibliographic information. About the host organisation: Agos Newspaper was founded in 1996 by Hrant Dink and a group of friends with the aim of bringing the issues facing Armenians in Türkiye to the attention of the public. It is the first newspaper published in both Turkish and Armenian during the Republican era, with an editorial line focused on democratisation, minority rights, coming to terms with the past, the preservation of pluralism in Türkiye, and human rights. As a newspaper emerging from within Türkiye's Armenian community, Agos aims to increasingly dedicate its pages to issues in Türkiye and around the world, and serves as a platform for free debate at a time when the space for independent journalism in Türkiye is steadily shrinking.

It works to support the full, equal and dignified participation of people with disabilities, children, youth and disadvantaged groups in social life, carrying out education, social inclusion, advocacy, consulting, capacity building, project design and mentoring activities, aiming to strengthen participation in rights, opportunities and decision-making processes.

Proposed fellowship: The fellowship will focus on strengthening the organisational capacity of NGOs and developing practical tools, project ideas and partnership opportunities between Türkiye and Armenia through EMYD's Project Factory initiative. About the host organisation: Diyarbakır Association for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets (DKVD) was founded in 1996 by a group of city volunteers — architects, archaeologists, art historians, lawyers, educators and photographers — to preserve, document, promote and pass down the tangible and intangible cultural and natural assets of the city. DKVD documents, records and archives the city's memory through written, visual and auditory materials, holds awareness-raising meetings, and organises cultural tourism trips. Since 2018, with Gerda Henkel Foundation support, DKVD has run the "Diyarbakır/Sur: Archive and Portal" project, establishing the Diyarbakır Digital City Archive and Diyarbakır Memory platform, and with Hrant Dink Foundation support is documenting the Sur urbicide through a documentary film and memorial stone.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow will support DKVD's archival studies by helping identify and collect Armenian-language materials related to Diyarbakır — written, oral, visual and illustrated sources — from digital archives around the world for integration into DKVD's digital archive, and by preparing bibliographic records for the limited number of Armenian-language sources already held in DKVD's archive.

Proposed fellowship: The fellowship aims to strengthen cross-border professional exchange in tourism by improving English-based communication, intercultural dialogue and practical tourism-related content between Türkiye and Armenia. About the host organisation: The Gola Culture, Art and Ecology Association is a multicultural organisation dedicated to preserving and sustaining the cultural and ecological heritage of the Eastern Black Sea region, including the endangered Laz language. Gola is preparing to launch Goladan, a social enterprise supporting local artisans in Türkiye's Eastern Black Sea region, marketing handcrafted products according to principles of ecological sustainability, ethical production and fair trade, alongside a digital visual archive documenting the stories behind traditional products.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow, with expertise in photography and/or video production, will work closely with Gola's team to produce high-quality visual content: documenting artisans and their production processes, creating professional product photography, producing short documentary and promotional videos, capturing interviews and field footage, organising and editing digital visual assets, and contributing to a sustainable visual archive.

About the host organisation: Founded in 1991 by a twelve-member board and 264 trustees, the History Foundation is a civil society organisation working in historical research and publishing, oral and local history, museology, archival preservation and pluralistic history education in Türkiye, documenting everyday life and the experiences of communities under-represented in official archives. Through more than 1,000 interviews, the Foundation has pioneered oral-history methods in Türkiye, supported local-history groups in over twenty provinces, and completed more than 100 major projects. Its Yurt Publications has produced more than 600 titles, including the İstanbul Encyclopedia, and Toplumsal Tarih is Türkiye's only history magazine to have completed thirty years of uninterrupted publication.

Proposed fellowship: The fellowship will support the History Foundation's programme of digital preservation, access and publication, concentrated in one or more areas depending on the fellow's interests: digitisation of the Foundation's archival collections (scanning, quality control, metadata, transfer to a web-based archive management system); digitisation and online publication of Toplumsal Tarih magazine (preparing issues, entering article-level information, checking text and image files); and contributing to the Foundation's website and other digital-publication activities (researching appropriately licensed images, preparing material for online presentation).

Proposed fellowship: The Institute seeks a long-term fellow to contribute to its visual archive documenting Istanbul's architectural and urban heritage (mainly photographic slides), identifying, cataloguing and making the material accessible to researchers. The heart of the fellowship is the Baha Tanman Jerusalem and North Africa/Middle East archive, documenting sacred, monumental and civil architecture at the intersection of Islamic, Christian and Jewish heritage; the fellow may also engage the Muhlis Türkmen archive of nearly 5,000 photographs, drawings, plans and documents. Core tasks include identifying structures and sites, establishing and verifying metadata, cross-referencing related images, organising material thematically/geographically, preparing descriptive notes, and flagging conservation/digitisation needs. Proposed fellowship: The fellow is expected to conduct research on preservation and conservation activities, digital heritage (photogrammetry, HBIM), tangible and intangible heritage, and industrial heritage areas, choosing between two programmes: (1) digital documentation of a selected example of Armenian architectural heritage in Istanbul (church, school, fountain or dwelling) using combined UAV- and 360°-photogrammetry, producing a scaled 3D model and orthophotographs; or (2) historic building analysis at the urban-fabric scale in former Armenian neighbourhoods of Istanbul, examining representative structures within their street section and wider urban morphology.

About the host organisation: Kazdagi Association for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Assets was founded by environmental advocates living in the Kazdağı region and elsewhere in Türkiye, aiming to protect the natural and cultural heritage of the country, particularly Kazdağı and its surroundings. The Association carries out advocacy against ecologically destructive projects — from coal-fired power plants to mining — monitoring projects, maintaining a field presence, and organising local environmental movements. Through its Climate Disasters Project, implemented with Hrant Dink Foundation support, it also works to build and strengthen local community resilience.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow is expected to actively support the Association's advocacy work against ecologically destructive projects, both in the field and through desk-based contributions, including preparing technical content, providing visual documentation (photography, video, drone or GIS-based materials), and contributing to community mobilisation. The fellow will also contribute to archiving and documenting the Association's institutional memory, and support its climate disaster-related work by producing written and visual content for awareness-raising and community engagement.

About the host organisation: Founded in Istanbul in 2004, the Migration Research Center at Koç University (MiReKoc) advances migration research through original scholarship and dialogue among researchers, policymakers, international organisations and civil society, serving as a hub focused on Türkiye and its region. Initially funding 44 research projects on migration in Türkiye (2004–2010), MiReKoc has since conducted research funded by partners including the German Marshall Fund, the European Commission, UNHCR and IOM on irregular migration, refugee issues, transnationalism, migrant integration and forced migration, expanding its scope beyond Türkiye and advocating for multidisciplinary approaches.

Proposed fellowship: Building on a growing research stream on the intersections of environmental change, climate change and migration (including a published article by Ahmet İçduygu and Hacer Gören), MiReKoc aims to develop a research agenda on the nexus of climate change, environmental transformation and migration in the Caucasus, with a particular focus on Armenia and Türkiye. An incoming fellow from Armenia will join MiReKoc as a full-time researcher, beginning with a comprehensive desktop study and literature review followed by empirical fieldwork. The collaboration is expected to produce a MiReKoc Working Paper co-authored with Prof. Ahmet İçduygu, plus one or two articles for submission to international peer-reviewed journals.

Proposed fellowship: "Ecologies of Care: Community Art, Rural Heritage and Sustainable Creative Practices" offers a practitioner from Armenia the opportunity to collaborate with local communities while exploring rural cultural heritage through artistic research and participatory methods. The fellow will conduct field research, communicate with local residents, women's cooperatives and craftspeople, document tangible and intangible cultural heritage, experiment with environmentally conscious artistic production, facilitate public workshops, and develop an individual or collaborative artistic project, concluding with a public presentation, exhibition, publication or open studio event.

Proposed fellowship: The fellow is expected to conduct research on heritage and material culture, related to the theme "Memory and female crafts between Anatolia and Armenia": examining the function of textile handiwork (embroidery, weaving, crochet, needlework) as a carrier of memory; the ruptures and continuities in craft traditions between Anatolia, other countries with Armenian populations (e.g. Lebanon) and Armenia; how patterns, designs and techniques have migrated and been adapted; and whether female textile practices offer a means to communicate the unsaid, including their therapeutic role and their place in contemporary Armenian art.

About the host organisation: Postane is an urban centre for impact-driven work and joint cultural production, based in Galata, Istanbul. In 2021, the former British Post Office building was repurposed as a public venue serving as a launchpad for activists, promoting cultural heritage and developing economic models and cultural programmes addressing social, environmental and urban challenges. It includes a rooftop garden, a solidarity-based kitchen and cafeteria, a fair trade unit, co-production office spaces, a specialised library, a podcast and video studio, and a multipurpose event hall. Postane is a member of the Bertha Spaces and Allianz Foundation Hubs networks, and is developed and operated by the social enterprise Bak Postacı.

Proposed fellowship: The fellowship explores Armenian culinary heritage and its contemporary traces in Istanbul's multilingual, cosmopolitan food landscape, through archival/desk research, oral-history conversations, neighbourhood visits, and engagement with cooks, food producers, researchers and community members, tracing how Armenian culinary knowledge, ingredients, recipes and practices have been transmitted, transformed or rendered absent over time. Connected to Postane's wider work on food justice and food sovereignty, the fellowship combines research with practice: the fellow joins Postane's kitchen team on designated days, translating research into dishes, menus or shared meals, and periodically shares findings with the team. The fellowship concludes with the fellow designing and organising a public communal table (sofra) event at Postane, combining food, storytelling and facilitated conversation.
