The workshop on discussion of news items within the scope of Media Watch on Hate Speech project was held on November 15, 2019 with the contributions of Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

In the discussion workshop on news items focused on sexual violence, how sexual violence-focused news reproduces discrimination and how a rights-oriented language can be adopted was discussed, with facilitation of Şehlem Kaçar. 

In the discussion workshop on news discourse, the role of the media in the production of discriminatory discourse and hate speech was discussed with facilitation of Dr. İdil Engindeniz, on October 15, 2019.

The workshop, held with the participation of our international invited speakers Agnes Kabajuni and Atanas Zahariev, brought civil society actors, academics and students working in the field of advocacy in Turkey together.

With the facilitation of Ezgi Koman and Yüce Yöney, children’s place in media, themes and discourses used in representing children, children’s participation in media and children’s rights based journalism were discussed.

In the workshop, how hate speech is generated and spread in social media and the possible methods for creating an alternative language to combat such discourse is discussed under the facilitation of Prof.Dr. Aslı Tunç.

In the news discussion workshop held on March 31, 2018, the role of the media in the production of discriminatory discourse concerning women and LGBTI is discussed under the facilitation of İdil Engindeniz.

Gazeteciler, sanatçılar, oyun yazarları, STK temsilcileri, akademisyenler ve edebiyatçıların eşliğinde ve Peter Molnar’ın katılımıyla düzenlenen toplantıda nefret söylemi ve ayrımcılıkla mücadele pratikleri tartışıldı.

In the news discussion workshop held on 30 September 2017, the role of the media in the production of discriminatory discourse concerning refugees is discussed under the facilitation of Ülkü Doğanay.

In the workshop moderated by Mahmut Çınar and İdil Engindeniz, issues such as discrimination, hate speech and right-based journalism were discussed through different examples of news stories and opinion columns.

 15 academics from 13 universities, a representative from a non-governmental organization and two students from Beykent and Marmara Universities attended a workshop at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.
