The workshop “Wellbeing and Activism in Risky Contexts” was held on November 26, 2019 at the  Hrant Dink Foundation.

Participants from civil society sector and volunteers got together in the workshop led by Dr. Alice Nah from Centre for Applied Human Rights University of York.  The workshop began with discussing the shared problems of the human rights defenders and addressed issues about stress, secondhand trauma, burnout and depression.

Dr. Nah shared the highlights of her research with 407 people on wellbeing with civil society workers from Colombia, Mexico, Egypt, Kenya, and Indonesia and shared the strategies and practices of developing self-empowerment and preservation of self-care.

At the end of the workshop, participants working in various fields including disability, gender, environmental rights and migration, agreed upon to talk about their negative feelings without rendering them unimportant , and not to hesitate to receive counseling in order to ensure sustainable  work in the field of human rights.
