Within December 9-15, 2019, two articles that generate hate speech were selected from print media. You can find two articles that contain hate speech against Hindus and Jews as well as the analyses written about them below.1

Milat, 11 December 2019

The article published in MilatRuthless Jewish murderers” reports the US President Donald Trump’s statements. Using President Trump’s words in the title without quotation marks and emphasizing them by using large font sizes, the newspaper endorses it and reinforces negative opinions about Jews.


2. 

Yeni Akit, 11 December 2019

The article published in Yeni Akit with the title “Hindus will banish the Rohingya people” covers the Citizenship Amendment Law passed after the voting in the Indian House of the People. The criticisms that this law would aggrieve Rohingya people are used in the title with an emphasis on Hindu identity and it is attributed to all Hindus. Thus, the article generates enmity against Hindus.

Within the scope of the media monitoring work focusing on hate speech, all national newspapers and around 500 local newspapers are monitored based on pre-determined keywords (e.g. Traitor, apostate, refugee, Christian, Jewish, separatist, etc.) via the media monitoring center. While the main focus has been hate speech on the basis of national, ethnic and religious identities; sexist and homophobic discourses are also examined as part of the monitoring work.
