1.

Yeni Söz, 13 July 2018

The article published in Yeni Söz with the title “Jew burning Palestinian family alive released” holds Jewish identity responsible for the incident with the generalizing description in the title. Thus, the newspaper reinforces prejudices and enmity against Jews.

2.

Gazete Damga, 12 July 2018

The article published in Gazete Damga with the title “Syrians came, our comfort is gone” covers the statements by Büyükçekmece Mayor Hasan Akgün. Akgün’s statement “After Syrians came, residents of our district have lost their comfort. There is an incredible crowd”, which labels Syrians as a source of discomfort, is used in the title without quotation marks and featured with the caption “Enough with Syrians!”. In this way, the newspaper regenerates the mayor’s negative opinions about Syrians and plays a part in renewing the existing discrimination against Syrians.

3.

Yeni Çağrı, 12 July 2018

Filiz Bahçıvan in her column titled "Syrian refugees piss us off” , writes: “Every day, we are subjected to quarrels and extravagance caused by Syrians. Turkish people feel really restless about it”, “You make your little children and wives who are your honor beg on my streets. You did harm to the state that took you under its wings by smuggling cigarettes and tea”, “You have forgotten about the tragedy in your country really quickly and became self-indulgent. It would be no surprise if we become the guests and you become the hosts in a short while”. With such statements, she triggers negative perceptions of Syrians and notes their presence in Turkey as “threat.” She also threatens Syrians whom she accuses of “ungratefulness” as we see in the following remarks: “Don’t you dare exercising your power on my people that you couldn’t show in your country. Don’t you dare having any designs on the honor of our girls and women. Don’t steal, don’t sell drugs to my youth” and “Behave yourself and don’t disturb the peace in my country. Don’t make the country that welcomed you regret for acting kindly.” She also facilitates the legitimization of discrimination and enmity against them.

4.

Yeni Akit, 11 July 2018

Ayhan Demir in his column titled “Humankind is oblivious, don’t forget this: Srebrenica!”, holds all Serbians responsible for what happened in Srebrenica as we can see in the following remarks: “Serbian assaulters tried to destroy people with whom they live together for centuries at the first occasion, like they did in the previous nine attacks” and “Coward Serbians didn’t have the courage to look Bosniacs in the face despite all of their arms. They made them get off the trucks, turned them around, made them kneel or lay down. They killed four Bosniacs out of 6 and made the two carry the bodies. Then they killed them as well.” In this way, the columnist regenerates and spreads a discourse that portrays Serbians as enemies by associating them with violence.
