With the increasing frequency of online meetings, webinars and workshops during the pandemic period, it became harder to attract interest of the participants to the studies efficiently. This was reflected in civil society as well, and in the field of human rights, it became more crucial to improve the ability to design and facilitate meetings well.

The online workshop, facilitated by Clinton du Preez on December 8, 2021 was focused on how to put interpersonal relationships and empathy at the center of meetings, especially in an area that concentrates on human rights advocacy; what it means to be a facilitator, organizer and designer in gatherings; and ways to make face-to-face and online gatherings more effective and engaging in a time when online meetings have become distracting and exhausting.

Clinton du Preez

Clinton du Preez started his work in developing teams and individuals at the Democratic Alliance (DA), South Africa’s Official Opposition Party. Working in the Party’s Development and Learning Department for a number of years, he designed and facilitated numerous development opportunities for political leaders and executive staff members of the Party. In 2018 he was appointed the Deputy National Campaign Manager: Training for the Party’s 2019 general election campaign. In this role, he was responsible for driving the systematic recruitment and training of over 50 000 party volunteers across the country, and training the Party’s top political leaders in debates and media interviews. He is currently based in Cape Town as an associate at Anew, an organisational and people development consultancy. Having designed and facilitated a number of Design Thinking workshops over the years, he honed his Design Thinking facilitation skills through the Design Thinkers Academy in Amsterdam in 2020. Drawing on his experience, therefore, in politics, leadership development and Design Thinking he works with NGOs, human rights organisations and political parties across the world, focusing on development, capacity building, team work and strengthening organisational structures.
