With the partnership of Hrant Dink Foundation and Columbia Global Centers | Istanbul a workshop titled “Navigating Ethics, Trauma, and Risk in Oral History” was held on Thursday, June 13 at 10.00-15.00.

Participants listened the basics of conducting research using oral history, including ethical concerns, dealing with trauma, and handling problems that come up along the way. It was also an interactive workshop: people asked questions, offered advice, and shared stories about past experiences with doing interviews. Students also had an opportunity to learn through examples, by watching clips of past oral history projects, and processing how it felt to witness these interviews, which helped them think about how to do their own work. By the end, the participants covered the various phases in an oral history project, including starting, organizing, conducting, and presenting the projects, or incorporating elements of oral research into ongoing projects.
