The third panel of the Archiving Memory project, 'Development and Use of Oral History' took place at the Hrant Dink Foundation on 21 February 2018. Rob Perks and Mary Stewart from the British Library and Oral History Society gave presentations during the panel moderated by Prof. Dr. Arzu Öztürkmen from the History Department of Boğaziçi University. Rob Perks whose presentation's title is 'The Emergence of Oral History as a Methodology for Exploring the Past and its Relationship to the Present’ talked about the historical and global development of the oral history methodology. He pointed out that the oral history, which emerged as a radical movement and aimed to reveal the voice of subordinated groups, became considerably developed and entered into the mainstream. Mary Stewart whose presentation's title is ‘Family History and Oral History: A Case Study’ talked about relations between family history and oral history in a comparative way. As a case study, she focused on the Pick family and showed the approaches and reactions of Martin Pick on the interview record of his father Charles Pick by giving examples from the audio record. She also noted the possible ethical challenges in the family history studies.
