The Inclusive Discourse Workshop was designed based on the 'Media Watch on Hate Speech' studies conducted by the Hrant Dink Foundation since 2009. The content of the workshop is updated by following the changes in the language, studies and reports in the field of discourse.

What is Inclusivity?

Inclusivity is the process of responding to the different needs of individuals within a society on a rights-based basis, ensuring their participation in life, education, economy, culture and society, and preventing them from being excluded in any way. Inclusiveness is about looking after the needs of not only certain groups, but also every group and individual in society, and even all living things in nature.

What is Inclusive Discourse?

Inclusive language is a rights-oriented and positive discourse that we base on human rights and human values. An inclusive discourse allows us to see and understand an event mentioned using hate speech from different perspectives, and facilitates critical thinking. It is a discourse that does not contain hierarchy, allows all groups to express themselves and their voices to be heard, and strengthens the bonds within the community.

Main learning objectives of the workshop:

  • To recognise the prejudices underlying discrimination,
  • To introduce hate speech and its possible effects,
  • To promote the use of inclusive discourse based on human rights,

In the Inclusive Discourse Workshop, we use informal education methods and pay attention to creating spaces that enable participants to learn from each other. The content of the workshop is updated regularly by following the changes in language, studies and reports on discourse.
