To question discrimination and discriminatory discourse against Syrian refugees and to support a discourse focused on human rights, we gather with NGO and media workers in Towards a New Discourse online training.

Towards a New Discourse online training addresses the concepts related to discrimination and hate speech against Syrian refugees and alternative speech as a way of combating hate speech. The training is organized for NGO and media professionals working with refugees.
Training date of NGO workers: Sunday, December 6, 2020, between 11.00-16.00
Requirements for application:
- Working in Istanbul, Hatay, or Sanliurfa (Applications from other provinces will also be evaluated if there is a place in the quota.)
- Being an NGO worker in Turkey
- Carrying out activities related to refugees

Training date of media workers: Sunday, December 13, 2020, between 11.00-16.00

- Being a media professional in Turkey
The training will be in Turkish only. You can apply to the training by filling out the form here.
Content of the training:
- Discrimination and related concepts
- Analysis of hate speech against Syrian refugees
- Alternative discourse as a way of combating hate speech
Important information:
- The training will be carried out via Zoom. Full participation with “open camera” is expected.
- The number of participants is limited to 20 people. Participants will be determined on the basis of full completion of the application form and relevance to the training program.
- Training is free. After the training, a certificate of participation will be given to those who fully participate in the training and pre-training processes.

Towards a New Discourse trainings are organized as part of the Towards a New Discourse and Dialogue project implemented by the Hrant Dink Foundation in partnership with the Community Volunteers Foundation, Support to Life Association and Sabancı University. The project aims to raise awareness against discriminatory discourse against Syrian refugees, to cooperate with public, media and civil society sectors, and to create a new human rights based discourse in order to enhance the possibility of coexistence in Turkey.
