You are invited to our webinar, “Creative methods for a new discourse (3): Picturing refugees” which will be held on 13th of November, Friday at 18.00 (Turkey time). Please fill in the form below to register for the event.

Images of refugees are frequently used especially in the media and in humanitarian aid campaigns. On the one hand, these images stimulate feelings of “empathy” and “help” by creating images depicting “suffering” and “tragedy.” On the other hand, they risk ignoring the refugees’ subjectivities and silencing them by victimization.

In the panel titled “Picturing refugees,” with academician Gamze Toksoy from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, photographer Serbest Salih from the DARKROOM project of Sirkhane, and the photographer Kalpesh Lathigra, winner of the World Press Photo in 2018, we will talk about the victimization of refugees in visual narratives and the inclusive and pluralistic methods of dealing with it.

The event will be in Turkish and English. There will be simultaneous translation from Turkish to English and English to Turkish.

The participation will be available through Zoom meeting and will also be broadcasted live on Youtube and Twitter accounts of the Foundation. The information and link of the Zoom meeting will be sent after the registration.
