On the second day of the event organized by Hrant Dink Foundation, 28 June 2019, a workshop entitled ‘Advocacy in Difficult Times’ will take place.

The rise of totalitarian regimes and anti-democratic policies around the world reconfigured the relationship between the State and the civil society, opened concepts such as active citizenship and advocacy to discussion and disrupted participatory democracy. Similarly in Turkey, it is possible to observe the transformation of the civil society and the shrinking of areas of advocacy. In this new socio-political context, innovative tools and methods for advocacy, and common policies in order to develop more inclusive and permanent solidarities, are needed more than before.

This workshop, which will be held with the participation of our international invited speakers Agnes Kabajuni (Minority Rights Group International) and Atanas Zahariev (European Roma Rights Center), will bring civil society actors, academics, and researchers working in the field of advocacy in Turkey together.

During the workshop, participants will explore their common problems and opportunities, and will discuss how to develop inclusive solidarities and common policies among different rights-based groups.
