Yeni Bir Söylem ve Diyaloğa Doğru
Co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey, the project Towards a New Discourse and Dialogue is a civil society project that will be carried out under the coordination of Hrant Dink Foundation with the partnership of Community Volunteers Foundation, Support to Life Foundation and Sabancı University.
The project is designed on the basis of Hrant Dink Foundation’s media watch on hate speech and discriminatory discourse in print media which has been conducted since 2009. The media monitoring work shows that prejudices against Syrian refugees has been increasing especially starting from 2014 and often a discourse ignoring human rights is used. Thus, the project "Towards a New Discourse and Dialogue" aims
- to increase the cooperation between public, media and civil society sectors in order to enhance the possibility of coexistence in Turkey,
- to raise awareness against discrimination, discriminatory discourse and hate speech against Syrian refugees,
- to create a new human rights based discourse.
With these purposes, the project targets public, media and civil society sectors based in Hatay, Şanlıurfa and İstanbul which host large refugee populations. The main activity of the project is the development and dissemination of the non-formal adult training module. The module includes human rights principles and values, discrimination and methods for combating discrimination, migration, refugee rights, hate speech and alternative discourse. In addition to the module, one-on-one meetings, roundtable meetings, international panels, workshops and advocacy activities with experts working in the field of migration and refugees are held.
