Within July 20-26, 2020, three articles that generate hate speech were selected from print media. You can find three articles that contain hate speech against  Greeks, Jews, and Syrians as well as the analyses written about them below.

Referring to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the article published in Özden Gazetesi on July 21 targets Jewish identity with threatening and hostile discourses such as “It is swarmed by the servants of Jews, we won’t let it happen”, “and we have to teach a lesson as soon as possible”.

In the article published in Gaziantep Sabah Gazetesi with the title “Foreign politics for Antep”, it is stated that Syrians are everywhere and working in all sectors, conversations in Arabic are heard everywhere, and there is a feeling of disturbance because of such things. Also, troubles are attributed to Syrian identity and negative judgments are fomented with the remark “And no one is about to leave!” written in bold.

The article published in Yeni Akit with the title “Byzantine losers are furious” reports that a group of protestors burned Turkish flag in Greece. With descriptions like “Greek infidels are furious”, “intolerant Greeks”, “Greek fascists” and “racist Greeks”, the incident is turned into hate speech against Greek identity. 


1. Within the scope of the media monitoring work focusing on hate speech, all national newspapers and around 500 local newspapers are monitored based on pre-determined keywords (e.g. Traitor, apostate, refugee, Christian, Jewish, separatist, etc.) via the media monitoring center. While the main focus has been hate speech on the basis of national, ethnic and religious identities; sexist and homophobic discourses are also examined as part of the monitoring work.
