The article published in Yeni Akit on July 27 with the title “Armenian terrorism protested in Bakırköy” portrays Armenians as enemies by presenting the Armenian state’s assault on Azerbaijan as “Armenian terrorism” and “Armenian assault".

The article published in Milat with the title “Greeks chased away, Turkey saved” attributes negative sentiments to Greek identity by covering Greek coast guard’s treatment of refugees as “Greeks chased way”, “Greek torment”, “Barbaric Greeks”.

The article published in Karar on July 31 reports reclassification of Hagia Sophia as a mosque. Opposing views are presented as “weak Greek buzz” and Greek identity is portrayed in a negative way.


1.Within the scope of the media monitoring work focusing on hate speech, all national newspapers and around 500 local newspapers are monitored based on pre-determined keywords (e.g. Traitor, apostate, refugee, Christian, Jewish, separatist, etc.) via the media monitoring center. While the main focus has been hate speech on the basis of national, ethnic and religious identities; sexist and homophobic discourses are also examined as part of the monitoring work.
