Within August 17-23, 2020, three articles that generate hate speech were selected from print media. You can find three articles that contain hate speech against  Armenians, Greeks and Westerns as well as the analyses written about them below.

In his column in Yeni Akit, Hüseyin Öztürk makes a hostile remark concerning Western identity with the title “The West has no morality”, even though he states that he doesn’t mean the people, but the rulers and lobbyists.

Reporting the diplomatic tensions that Turkey has with Armenia and South Cyprus, the article published in Türkiye’de Yeniçağ holds Armenian and Greek identities responsible for tension and disputes due to state policies and foments enmity with the title “Armenian-Greek evil front”.

Covering Biden’s candidacy for the US presidency, his attitude towards Turkey and Turkish politicians evaluation of it, the article published in Sabah makes hostile and generalizing remarks about Greek and Armenian identities as we see in the following sentences: “Opposing Turkey’s policies for protecting Cypriot Turks from Greek atrocity, Biden even went on to present a bill to the Congress for sanctioning Turkey in 1987” and “Biden also sides with the Armenian lie of ‘genocide’ concerning 1915 events, during which thousands of Turks were killed by Armenian gangs”.

Bursa Hayat, August 21, 2020

Discussing the US presidential election, candidates and influential politicians, Atilla Akbaş writes: “(For Joe Biden) His statements clearly show that as a Zionist he will serve Armenians”, “Since Kamala Harris is one of those who moved up the social ladder with Armenian lobbies, she is made by Armenian guidance”. With these remarks, he exhibits hostility with hateful discourse about certain groups, especially Armenians.


1. Within the scope of the media monitoring work focusing on hate speech, all national newspapers and around 500 local newspapers are monitored based on pre-determined keywords (e.g. Traitor, apostate, refugee, Christian, Jewish, separatist, etc.) via the media monitoring center. While the main focus has been hate speech on the basis of national, ethnic and religious identities; sexist and homophobic discourses are also examined as part of the monitoring work.
