1.

Yeni Söz, 8 March 2019

The article published in Yeni Söz with the title “Palestinian boy wounded by Jewish soldiers is martyred” reports the death of a child after a shot by Israeli soldiers by holding all Jews responsible for the incident. Thus, the newspaper foments enmity against Jews by associating Jewish identity with violence.

2.

Diriliş Postası, 7 March 2019

Yasin Taçar, in his column titled “The ones who don’t follow the Prophet are led by Goldziher”, uses the word “giaour”, which is an expression of hatred and insult against non-Muslims in Turkey: “Knowing that they should destroy the faith in order to destroy this nation, giaours have been trying everything to take away our faith.” Thus, he represents non-Muslims as a “threat” against and “enemy” of Muslims. He also represents Christians as danger and foments negative opinions about them with the following sentence: “They have never succeeded, but they also never stop trying. A Christian missionary, working for dialogue between religions, Fetullah Gülen was faced with brave believers saying Allahu aqbar when he was trying to take away our people’s faith.” Lastly, he positions Jews in opposition to Muslims by emphasizing Jewish identity and foments the perception of threat: “We said that it was a project. Their mentor was important, because they had always been non-Muslims. One of them, probably the most important one was Goldzhier. He lived between 1850 and 1921. A Jew with Hungarian descent.”

3.

Aydınlık, 6 March 2019

Ata Atun, in his column titled “A Khojaly Genocide monument must be built in Northern Cyprus”, reinforces the historical perception of enmity regarding Armenians with the following remark: “It is time for building an ‘A Khojaly Genocide monument’ in Northern Cyprus in order to remember the atrocity and genocide carried out by Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh against our helpless and innocents kin just because they were Turkish, to pass it on to next generations and to commemorate it all the time, because we are the ones who can understand them.” The columnist demonizes Armenian identity with remarks containing elements of enmity and hatred, and foments enmity between peoples.
