Within July 15-21, 2019, four articles that generate hate speech were selected. You can find these articles that contain hate speech against the Greeks, Armenians, and Germans as well as the analyses written about them below.¹

1. The article published in Yeni Akit with the title “They made traitor Can Dündar defame Erdoğan” covers an article written by Can Dündar. National identity is emphasized with the description “German enmity” in the title and German identity is associated with “enmity.” Thus, the article presents Germans as an enemy.

2. Mustafa Önder, in his column titled “From milk powder to S-400”, discusses international political conjuncture and the US’ relationship with Turkey. After stating that the US brings “blood and tears” to everywhere it goes with the promise of “democracy and freedom”, he adds, “They are intending to kill us and seize our land for years with Greeks, Armenians, ASALA, DHKP-C, PKK, ISIS, Al Qaeda, FETÖ...” Thus, the columnist portrays Greek and Armenian identities as an enemy; he labels them as “threat” and targets them.

3. The article published in Güneş with the title “Greeks’ fear of Bora and S-400” reports the articles published in Greek media about Turkey’s purchasing S-400 defense system. With the emphasis on the national identity in the title and the claim that Greece “fears” of Turkey, the perception of enmity from the past is reinforced.
