Within May 28-June 3, 2018, three articles that generate hate speech were selected. You can find these articles that contain hate speech against Armenians, Christians and homosexuals as well as the analyses written about them below.1

Yeni Akit, May 31, 2018

In the article published in Yeni Akit with the title “Christians barely tolerate the migrants”, Christians are generalized in a negative way both with the title and the following statement: “Christians in the so-called human rights advocate West do not tolerate migrants and non-Christians.” Thus, the article incites the existing prejudices and hatred against Christians.

 

2. 

Güneş, May 31, 2018

The article published in Güneş with the title “THOUSANDS LETTER FOR THE ARMENIAN TERRORIST” associates Armenian identity with ‘terrorism’ and violence. Thus, the newspaper reinforces negative opinions about and enmity against Armenian identity.

 

3. 

Milat, May 28, 2018

In the article published in Milat with the title “Homosexual FETÖ supporter caught in HIV test”, negative perceptions of homosexuals are reinforced both with the title and the following statement: “M.T., who are accused of being a FETÖ supporter and determined to be homosexual, is caught in the hospital where he wanted to take HIV test.” Thus, the newspaper labels homosexuals as a threat against society and reinforces the discrimination against them.

 

1. Within the scope of the media monitoring work focusing on hate speech, all national newspapers and around 500 local newspapers are monitored based on pre-determined keywords (e.g. Traitor, apostate, refugee, Christian, Jewish, separatist, etc.) via the media monitoring center. While the main focus has been hate speech on the basis of national, ethnic and religious identities; sexist and homophobic discourses are also examined as part of the monitoring work.
