The documentary Gacı Gibi (Hatewalk) was screened in Havak Hall of Hrant Dink Foundation on March 29. After the screening organized by ASULIS Discourse, Dialog and Democracy Laboratory, a talk moderated by Yıldız Tar from Kaos GL was held with the participation of director Serkan Çiftçi and Berfin Kılıç, who is featured in the documentary.

Berfin Kılıç told that while she was suffering from abstinence syndrome due to transphobic and homophobic events in Mersin, she received an offer from Mersin Univesity and had meet with Serkan Çiftçi. Stating that they had some reservations about making a documentary, Kılıç said that they had a lot fun during the shooting thanks to the warm environment.

Noting that people of Turkey have been subjected to discrimination everywhere on the basis of religion, language, color and belief, Kılıç stated that LGBTIs are among the ones who are subjected to discrimination most and they have been subjected to an endless discrimination in Mersin. Kılıç stated that they have founded 7 Colors LGBTI Association in Mersin, but transphobic events haven't ceased and after that and added: “As LGBTI community, we only have each other.”

Çiftçi said that they went to the house of a trans victim (Deniz) of hate crime and pictured instances like the visitor's book that people filled during Deniz's recovery and such experiences were exciting. Çiftçi noted that they also filmed the struggle of 7 Colors LGBTI Association, which believes that they can weaken the notion of hate by being visible, being on the streets and making contact. Çiftçi also stated that 7 Colors LGBTI Association is a pioneering organization in a city like Mersin and it was convenient to cover the story of this association through Deniz, Berfin and Ece. He also noted that none of their predications was realized and they couldn't have intervene in the cycle of life.

Summary: Deniz is a trans woman working as a sex laborer in Mersin. She was a victim of an hate attack by a group of people. She was injured seriously and moreover crashed a car while running and broke her leg. In the mean time she is getting healed also struggling the survival for her rights with “7 Colours” activists of LGBTI, the first assoc. of the south region. One of the ways of defeating hate is to exist in the daily life more and more and by this to be acceptable by society.
