The Third Renewable Energy Cooperatives Conference, organised by Troya Environmental Association, which aims to strengthen the renewable energy cooperatives in Turkey and its region, to disseminate the good examples in this field and to bring together cooperatives and interested groups from different countries, was held on 10-11 September 2018 in İzmir. 15 speakers from eight countries held their presentations at the conference that was also supported by REScoop.eu, the European Federation for Renewable Energy Cooperatives. This year, for the first time, a group from Armenia has attended the conference and presented their projects in the field of renewable energy.

Two representatives of Ayrudzy Riding Club NGO, Armen Kirakosyan and Armine Sargsyan, have attended the conference with the support of the Turkey-Armenia Travel Grant and made a presentation about the “Under the Same Sun” project which has provided the installation of solar energy panels to supply electricity need of two venues in Çanakkale and Ashtarak which are run by civil society for the benefit of civil society. The project was supported by the Sub-Grant Scheme within the framework of the Programme Support to the Armenia-Turkey Normalisation Process and implemented by Ayrudzy Riding Club NGO from Ashtarak, Armenia, and Troya Environmental Association from Çanakkale, Turkey. During the conference, Armen Kirakosyan and Armenuhi Sargsyan have presented their project and the developments in Armenia on the renewable energy field, while at the same time having the chance to be informed about the process of forming cooperatives and other opportunities by the participants from various countries in the region and in Europe.

On the Turkey side of the project, PV solar panels in the capacity of 3kW were on the Gülpınar Konukevi, located in the Gülpınar Village in Çanakkale by Troya Environmental Association. As part of the project, in August 2018, a series of panels and meetings were organised in different regions of Çanakkale, where the benefits of renewable energy and the successful examples were presented. The representatives of Ayrudzy Riding Club NGO were also present at these panels and discussions and they shared remarks and experiences with the representatives of several local NGOs, environmental activists and the inhabitants of the villages they visited, including Gülpınar Village.
