Bego Demir from the Clean Clothes Campaign Association and Assist. Prof. Yeşim Yasin from Acıbadem University Public Health Department will be guest speakers in the webinar titled: "Civil society during and after the pandemic – 4: Working conditions of labours and right to health care"
We will discuss the situation of labours in the textile industry in Turkey during the pandemic, their rights to healthcare and safe return to work as well as changing environment of the relations of production.
The webinar entitled "Civil society during and after the pandemic – 4: Working conditions of labours and right to health care" will be on 17th of June, Wednesday at 16.00 (Turkey time).
The participation will be available through Zoom meeting and will also be broadcasted live on Facebook channel of the Foundation.
The language of the event will be in Turkish. There will be simultaneous translation in Armenian.

Bego Demir Bego Demir started working in jeans production as a child worker at the age of 15. Sandblasting has costed him to lose 46.2% of his lungs but he did not give up. Demir has established Workers Solidarity Committee in 2008 and achieved to ban the sandblasting in Turkey. By persuading the legislators, he made law to pass and granted retirement to all workers. In 2013 in order to make textile production more sustainable and to strengthen the producers he established the Clean Clothes Campaign of Turkey. At the same time, he launched the www.meslekhastaligi.org site to raise awareness of occupational disease. Also as a social entrepreneur Bego launched “Bego Jeans” as an example for brands and to share profits with manufacturers. Bego Jeans produces recycled jeans that respect the environment, people and nature. |
Yeşim Yasin Yeşim Yasin is a faculty member at Acıbadem University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Public Health. She received her Public Health PhD degree from Istanbul University Health Sciences Institute (Istanbul Faculty of Medicine) in 2013. Her main academic interests and activisim areas are Social and occupational diseases such as tuberculosis and silicosis and vulnerable groups in terms of health care. Yasin also has studies on social determinants of health, gender / gender-based medicine, HIV, migrant / refugee health, global health policies. She is a member of Human Health and Education Foundation (İNSEV), Turkish Thoracic Society, Istanbul Tuberculosis Association, Turkish Medical Association-Public Health Branch and Doctors Without Borders (MSF). She has two cats named Alis and Suri. |
