A new webinar series will be starting on 'Civil society during and after the pandemic" within the scope of the project 'Empowering CSOs and sparking chacnge for tackling discrimination and promoting diversity' with the collaboration of Olof Palme International Center and Istanbul Policy Center within the support of the European Union.
The first speaker of the series is Yörük Kurtaran who is a trustee of Support Foundation for Civil Society. He will discuss the challenges of the civil society organisations in Turkey and abroad during the pandemic and the creation of new methods on financial sustainability, advocacy and communication.

The participation will be available through Zoom meeting and will also be broadcasted live on Facebook channel of the Foundation.

Yörük Kurtaran (Support Foundation for Civil Society) Yoruk Kurtaran has 20 years of experience working in civil society. He was a board member of Center for Civil Society Studies of Istanbul Bilgi University, a center focusing on capacity building with right based civil society organisations (CSOs). He was the General Manager of Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG), one of the leading youth work related organisations in Turkey. Throughout, he also worked in TESEV, Willows Foundation and TUSIAD. He was a Board Member of several organisations in Turkey including Ali Ismail Korkmaz Foundation, Anadolu Kultur and Mother Child Education Foundation (ACEV). He has published several articles on youth work and youth policy since 2006 and co-edited the book "Youth Work and Policies in Turkey" in 2009. He has been an undergraduate and masters level lecturer on civil society, civil society theory, youth policy and history of video games. He is a founder and a trustee of Support for Civil Society Foundation (Sivil Toplum icin Destek Vakfi) a grant making organization supporting grassroots initiatives in Turkey. He is also a trustee of Turkey Mozaik Foundation, a diaspora grant making organization in London, supporting innovative grassroots organizations in Turkey. His current interests includes philanthropy and new technologies. Currently he is providing consultancy work to several NGOs. He received his BA and MA from Political Science and Public Administration Department of Ankara’s Bilkent University. He lives in London travels a lot to Istanbul. Has a wife and two kids, loves metal, punk and hardcore, has a strong interest in video games and into running. |
