You are kindly invited to our panel, which will be held on 27 June 2019 at Hrant Dink Foundation Anarad Hığutyun Building.

The panel, which will be held with the participation of our invited speakers from Africa and Central Europe, will focus on advocacy experiences from different geographies as well as innovative approaches and inclusive ways of solidarity that these difficult times require. In this panel moderated by academic and human rights defender Laden Yurttagüler, Agnes Kabajuni, Minority Rights Group International Africa Regional Manager, will be talking about her 20 years of experience on advocacy for cultural rights, women’s rights, ethnic minority and indigenous rights, and Minority Rights Groups International’s work in Africa. Atanas Zahariev from European Roma Rights Center will be sharing his advocacy experience, especially in the Balkans, Eastern and Central Europe, and will discuss the possibilities for innovative approaches and new opportunities for solidarity for the protection of, and advocacy for Roma rights in this new political context.

The panel will be followed by a workshop on June 28, which will bring our invited speakers Agnes Kabajuni and Atanas Zahariev together with civil society actors, academics and researchers working in the field of advocacy in Turkey.

Agnes Kabajuni (Minority Rights Group International)

Agnes Kabajuni holds an MA degree in Human Rights from the University of Essex, and has 20 years of research and advocacy experience on human rights violations in Africa, working in institutions such as CIVICUS, Amnesty International and Centre for Economic Social Cultural Rights (CESCRA) in Uganda. Currently, she holds the position of Africa Regional Manager at Minority Rights Group International. Her field of expertise includes cultural rights, women’s rights, ethnic minority and indigenous rights.


Atanas Zahariev (European Roma Rights Centre)

Atanas Zahariev is a Human rights policy, and advocacy professional, with significant expertise on Roma inclusion policies with a demonstrated history of working in the intergovernmental institutions and non-profit organization management industry at EU level. Atanas currently works as independant Human Rights, Policy and Advocacy expert on Roma inclusion and policies. From 2015 to 2019 he worked at the European Roma Rights Centre (Budapest) as Advocacy officer. Previously he worked on programme management at the EEA and Norway Grants. Atanas is Skilled in Fundamental rights, Roma inclusion policies, EU Enlargment andNeighbourhood policies, Non-formal Education, Nonprofit Organizations, European Integration, Communication, and Gender Mainstreaming. He is a Strong community and social services professional with a Master of Arts in Crtical Gender Studies from Central European University.
