The workshop series on "Facilitator skills in human rights education" was held on 21, 22, 27, and 28 October 2020, conducted by Council of Europe trainers Ruxandra Pandea and Dariusz Grzemny. The workshop aimed to improve the facilitation capacities of individuals and institutions engaged in training activities in the field of hate speech, discrimination and human rights. Employees from non-governmental and public institutions* attended the workshop.
During the training, notions of discrimination, hate speech and human rights were discussed. In particular, hate speech and dilemmas in human rights were questioned throughout the training. It was discussed what kind of approaches can be displayed regarding discriminatory language and hate speech and at what point they conflict with freedom of expression. These discussions were deepened with group work where participants with different experiences could learn from each other.
Ruxandra Pandea and Dariusz Grzemny emphasized that each training differs according to the profile of the participants and that the facilitator should be prepared taking this into consideration. In addition, they highlighted the importance of the facilitator to master the content and the materials to be used throughout the training.
