The fifth of the panel series about the practices of dealing with the difficult pasts that promotes inspiring best practices from different parts of the world will be organized on the 20th of December, at Hrant Dink Foundation Havak Hall.

How do the museums and memory sites that deal with the difficult pasts contribute to fostering dialogue and mutual understanding? What is the role of education and outreach programs that are implemented in museums and memory sites for tackling discrimination, prejudices and polarization? What are the challenges of implementing education programs? Why is it important to remind difficult pasts and create memory sites?

Practices of Dealing With the Difficult Pasts: Experiences from Germany, Poland and Albania panel organized by Hrant Dink Foundation and DVV International will try to answer those questions in light of the experiences of the experts.

Sarah Hiron, the head of the outreach of the education department of Berlin Jewish Museum; Larysa Michalska from the education department of Galicia Jewish Museum; Etleva Demollari who is the director of the ‘House of Leaves,Museum of Secret Surveillance’ which opened its doors to public in May 2017 in Tirana and which was the former site of secret surveillance of the Gestapo during World War II and then of the communist regime; Mirian Bllaci, the program manager of Cultural Heritage Without Borders in Tirana who is also one of the coordinators of the project for turning one of the most brutal political prisons of Communist Albania the Spaç Prison into a site of memory will participate in the panel as speakers.

There will be simultaneous translation during the panel.
