PROPOSED FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Society Without Violence NGO (SWV) was founded in 2001. Since its establishment the organization is implementing projects focused on women’s empowerment, young girls’ public awareness and participation raise, promotion of social activism and leadership skills as well as contribution to the formation of women human rights defenders’ institutional system.
SWV’s mission is to educate and empower girls and women, promote gender equality and raise the awareness of the public, advocate for women’s representation and participation in all levels of decision making and peace building processes, contribute to the elimination of gender based stereotypes, discrimination and violence, and increase the responsibility and accountability of duty bearers to protect and fulfill women’s rights.
Within the framework of the Fellowship Scheme, the main activities proposed by SWV are as follows, but are not limited to:
- Research on the attitudes of women residing in the Armenian-Turkish border villages regarding the conflict and peace-building.
- Research revealing the main gender based stereotypes in the societies of Armenia and Turkey
- Initiation and implementation of an empowering art project (photo exhibition, video, theatre, etc.) addressing women’s rights issues, promoting gender equality and women’s participation in peace processes.
We would strongly encourage new ideas and projects the fellow wants to initiate, which can be discussed and confirmed with SWV.
EXPECTED PROFILE
The fellow is expected to have the knowledge and skills listed below:
- Good research skills and proven experience
- A good understanding of gender and gender equality concepts
- Motivation in addressing peace building issues and women’s participation
- Familiarity with civil society activities
- Good command of written and spoken English
- IT skills (including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and e-mail and other commonly used software)
- Organizational and presentation skills is an asset
- Sensitivity to cultural and gender differences, and respect for diversity
- Experience in training/civic forum participation and facilitation is an asset
- Good team player, with proven networking, capacity-building and listening skills
- Ability to use creative approaches to every day work
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- A positive problem-solving approach
- Analytical skills
- Good interpersonal skills.
CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The fellow is expected to be at SWV office from Monday to Friday between 10:30 – 19:00 (free during the Armenian and Turkish public holidays).
PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP (JANUARY – JUNE 2017)
The preferred duration for the fellowship is 6 months, from January to June 2017.
