Mor Çatı Women’s Shelter Foundation is one of the first organisations founded in Turkey to fight against violence against women. Since 1990, the volunteers of Mor Çatı have been acting in solidarity with women subjected to violence. The solidarity centre receives approximately 10 applications a day through phone calls or in person. The centre is working not to help women, but to create women’s solidarity against violence and to fight together. With a capacity to accommodate 18 people, the shelter offers solidarity with women and children wishing to lead a life free from violence. All women wishing to voluntarily support Mor Çatı Solidarity Center and Shelter, share experience on fight against violence against women and be involved in women’s solidarity network may apply.

The fellow shall contribute to the the women’s solidarity network for fighting violence against women established by Mor Çatı in the following ways:

  1. Be informed about the activities of Mor Çatı Solidarity Center and Shelter and the discussions on gender by attending the volunteer workshops
  2. Gathering information through meetings with various individuals and organisations working in the field of women’s movement in Turkey, feminist struggle, the history of Mor Çatı Solidarity Center and Shelter, legal developments, institutions and practices.
  3. Following up the activities of Mor Çatı Solidarity Center and Shelter
  4.  Providing assistance to women and children who apply to Mor Çatı Solidarity Center and Shelter
  5. Attending experience sharing workshops and conducting one to one interviews
  6. Organizing and keeping track of the incoming donations
  7. Organizing activities for the women and children staying at the Mor Çatı Solidarity Center and Shelter

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Prefers to use feminist methods to fight against male violence 
  • Experience of working at projects on violence against women
  • Turkish language would be an asset

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The fellow is expected to conduct her fellowship activitiy during five week days from 10:00 till 17:00. All weekends and official holidays are off days. 

The fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.
