İGAM is a young dynamic civil society organisation founded on 12 June 2013 in Ankara, capital city of Turkey by a group of academics, researchers, journalists and humanitarian workers to fill the gap of non-existence of an independent research center on asylum and migration issues. 

İGAM’s mission is to undertake research, advocacy and proactive action in accordance with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, European Convention of Human Rights and other human rights instruments in order to build and increase public awareness in the field of asylum and migration. To this end, IGAM conducts research, prepares policy proposals, carries out national and international projects, organizes seminars, workshops and conferences. In 2016, IGAM has carried out the following projects: Living conditions of Afghan Refugees in Turkey and reasons for moving to Europe; Measuring the Level of Integration of Refugees in Turkey; Needs Assessment of Syrian People Living in Turkey; Establishment of Turkish Refugee Council; World Refugee Day 2015: Let’s ask Syrians about Integration. 

İGAM is interested in hosting a fellow from Armenia who is 

  • Ready to contribute to IGAM’s ongoing and future research and projects in asylum and migration in general, including the planned research on the Armenian migrants in Turkey.
  • Ready to propose his/her own research/project topic in the field of asylum and migration

The fellow hosted by İGAM will be able to benefit from a number of resources to advance his/her own research, including but not limited to İGAM’s institutional expertise in migration research and its communication database.

İGAM may ask from the fellow for contribution to current projects or research activities.

The fellow will also be asked to share their ongoing research results with the Center and its partners through a lecture or a presentation, and, if applicable, prepare a joint report or a print article.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Researchers at MA, PhD, or post-doc level in Social Sciences (International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology)
  • Individuals with previous experience in asylum and migration issues, and previous experience of working with civil society organisations
  • Proficiency in English is needed.

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The fellow is expected to be at IGAM from Monday to Friday between 09:00 to 18:00. 

Fellowship will be implemented in Ankara, Turkey. Depending on the project and research activities, the fellow may need to travel to Istanbul and other provinces in Turkey.

PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP 

4 to 8 months depending on the requirement of the fellowship activity between October 2017-June 2018
