There are two main branches in Yıldız Technical University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature: Turkic Language and Turkic Literature. In this department you can find any information about historical Turkic languages (Old Turkic, Kharaghan Language, Old Ottoman Language…), Turkic grammar, linguistics, Turkish literature in Ottoman period, modern Turkish Literature from Tanzimat to today, folk literature and occupational English. The Department is looking for a fellow for the following tasks;
1. Transliteration of selected prominent Turkish literary texts written in Armenian script into Latin script.
Literary analyses of the transliterated texts, followed by the assessment of their place within Turkish literature as well as their implications on the relations between Turkey and Armenia in a historical and cultural context.
Carrying out necessary preliminary studies so that the entire corpus of Turkish literary texts written in Armenian script can be revealed.
2. Translation of Armenian texts written about Turkish philology, literature and culture, and preparing them for publication with descriptive notes and in-depth analyses (e.g. The book “Fuzuli”, written by Kevork Terzibaşyan with its first volume published in 1928)
3. Doing a comparative research on Turkish and Armenian literary texts in order to explore the interaction between them within a historical context.
EXPECTED PROFILE
- Good command of Turkish (listening & speaking in particular)
- Previous experience of studying Turkish literature
- Being able to read and analyse important examples of Turkish literature
CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The research schedule of the fellow will be decided upon together with the research advisers, depending on the content of the research.
Fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.
PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP
5 months to be decided jointly by the Yildiz Technical University and the fellow between October 2017 and June 2018
