The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, Turkey’s national public broadcaster, first hit airwaves on May 1st, 1964. TRT’s first television transmission followed on January 31st, 1968. Since its early days in radio, it has prided itself on providing quality, balanced programming. Today, TRT has evolved into a network of 14 television channels, 16 radio stations, and a variety of web platforms transmitted in 38 languages throughout the world. 

At TRT’s newest channel, TRT World, audiences can expect balanced, in depth reporting with a focus on global responsibility. Headquartered in Istanbul, with four newsrooms located around the world, we bring you news coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TRT World has live reports and documentaries. Online, you’ll find articles and vodcasts, which means you can take the news with you on the go. 

TRT World offers a fellowship in their newsroom. It’s a dynamic and international environment covering latest news events from the world. An ideal candidate(s) should join TRT World and stay for at least 4 to 6 months and actively get involved with different tasks in the newsroom. Positions for the fellowship are Interview Producer and Output Producer.

Interview Producer

The Interview Producer is an editorial position, filled by those responsible for contributing guest interviews to TRT World programs.  Interview Producers are responsible for ensuring that TRT World’s coverage of news events include the most interesting and relevant voices on global news stories. The fellow's key responsibilities will be;

  • Participate in regular editorial meetings to identify topics for interview segments
  • Book suitable guests for daily programs and breaking news events
  • Research interview topics and individual guests
  • Produce background briefs for presenters and program teams
  • Maintain a strong personal contacts while building and maintaining TRT World's guest Rolodex
  • Keep abreast of local, national, and international current events, as well as online news sources
  • May be required to write news copy and scripts to accompany pieces, and use newsroom desktop editing technology to cut pictures and interview clips.

Output Producer

The fellow will follow the programme under the direction of an Program Editor to create and shape our news coverage writing scripts, cutting pictures, finding guests, developing graphics and other work as required. Your mission will be to produce original and market-leading news output while ensuring TRT World's editorial guidelines and values are adhered to. Though your main role will be to produce news for TRT World's television news channel, you will embrace the full range of content delivery platforms including online and aim to develop cross-platform working practices and ideas wherever possible.

  • Following the activities under the direction of an Program Editor to produce distinctive and stylish coverage for a segment of TRT World's programming.
  • Writing scripts for on-air talent, cutting pictures using a newsroom production system, finding guests, commissioning and writing graphics and other task as required.
  • Ensuring TRT World's editorial guidelines and values are adhered to.
  • Cooperating with producers within your team and across the newsroom, as well as with the news desk and online, to cultivate a collaborative approach to news gathering and delivery across the channel

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Strong interest in international affairs & global politics
  • Fluent English in speaking and writing
  • Turkish is a plus
  • A Degree in Social Sciences, Political Sciences, Economy, International relations preferred
  • Possibly a year of experience in similar companies

Interview Producer

  • Experience in guest booking in international news
  • An excellent contacts book and proven experience of delivering guests interviews.
  • An inquisitive mind, good telephone manner and ability to convince guests to appear.
  • Capable of creatively developing interviews that will inform and engage audiences.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple department so secure logistical bookings
  • Must be capable of long hours of fellowship activity, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in television news required

Output Producer

  • Experience in television news, including television news production.
  • An excellent journalist with strong editorial judgement.
  • Previous experience in a national or international broadcast news channel.
  • Experience of newsroom production systems and desktop editing.
  • Experience of or appreciation of the benefits and difficulties of cross-platform working.
  • Evidence of a broad range of journalistic interests including social affairs, international politics, public policy, world business and economic affairs, Sciences and the Arts.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience required 

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The fellow is expected to be present at the office 40 hours per week, with two shifts; morning & late.

Fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.
