Tarlabaşı Community Support Association focuses on protecting people living in Tarlabaşı area who are excluded from the social life and live in poverty and deprivation of fundamental rights, wiping out the biases toward Tarlabaşı and raising awareness among Tarlabaşı habitants in terms of violation of their rights are some of the most important aims of the Association for Supporting Tarlabaşı Community.

Description of the proposed fellowship activity;

  • Providing for the disadvantaged children's access to various plastic art activities and creative works
  • Furnishing their development in creative thinking and motor skills
  • Supporting the development of their collaboration and peaceful, nonviolent communication skills
  • Creating space for them  to express themselves more freely via art activities
  • Contributing to the development of their self confidence and recycling awareness through using various waste materials in workshops, creating a space for their self expression are among the key objectives of the program.

Within this scope, the instructor is expected to make regular art workshops and hand craft activities at least on three days of the week during the term of the internship, in line with the program/plan prepared together with the civil society organisation. 

Additionally, the instructor is expected to come to the centre at least four days of the week, and spend one day (other than workshops) by observation, reporting and contributing to other works. 

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Having a related degree on the topic or having completed related training
  • Having experience in working with disadvantaged children 
  • At least being acquainted with children and human rights issues, having full respect to the child's privacy and values and having good communication skills
  • Turkish knowledge at basic level and minimum above intermediate level English knowledge
  • With strong skills as a team worker, dynamic, creative, energetic, knowledgeable of the area and conditions, respectful for multiculturalism etc.
  • With the ability of finding creative solutions in difficult conditions
  • With capacity to act in line with the principles of the organisation worked in

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The fellowship activities are between 10:00 and 18:00 (during winter 10:00-19:00) Monday-Friday and the workshops for the children are carried out after school at 16:00 or later. The fellow is expected to conduct his/her fellowship activity at the office at least four days a week.  On all official holidays the centre is closed.

Fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.

PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP 

6 to 8 months between October 2017 and May 2018
