PODEM is an independent think-tank based in İstanbul. As PODEM, we seek to contribute to the efforts towards a Turkey where democracy is fully institutionalised and where a democratic mindset prevails. To that extent, we aim to forge synergy between the government, public institutions and local civil society actors, and contribute to reform processes and policy-making efforts in Turkey. To this end, our works aim analyse the changing dynamics of the society of Turkey and of other relevant societies and states through rigorous field research and provide policy proposals in the light of our findings. We share our policy proposals with the public and relevant political and social actors. 

The fellow is expected to focus on the following fields;

  • Turkey’s Foreign Policy
  • Middle East and North Africa Region
  • EU and the Mediterranean 

Within the frame of the fellowship program, we seek to collaborate on our projects focusing on Middle East and North African countries, Euro-Mediterranean relations and Syria. PODEM is a member of two different H2020 consortiums and the fellow is planned to contribute to the desk research of these projects. Also the fellow may prepare an article/policy paper which will be designed together and there may be a possibility to publish this piece at the end of the fellowship. 

EXPECTED PROFILE

For the fellowship, we aim to work with the researchers specialised and interested in international politics and Turkey related topics. Candidates should have at least an MA or PhD degree, preferably in International Relations, Political Science or Sociology. Excellent writing and speaking abilities in English is a must. Our office language is Turkish so the knowledge of Turkish is an asset. Applicants with academic and/or work experience in both desk and field research will be preferred.

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Fellowship activity days will be  from Monday to Friday, between 09.00 and 17.30

Fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.

PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP 

4 to 8 months between October 2017 and June 2018
