The Centre for International and European Studies (CIES) was established in September 2010 from the ashes of the Centre for European Studies which was founded in 2004. Since September 2010, it has been transformed by widening its focus in order to pursue applied, policy-oriented research, build capacity and to promote knowledge on both horizontal and geographical issues and concerns. Its areas of research include EU institutions and policies (such as enlargement and CFSP), cross-cutting horizontal issues such as regional cooperation, global governance, gender, youth, democracy, civic engagement, energy, and security, inter alia with a geographical focus on the Black Sea Region including Caucasus, the Mediterranean, South-eastern Europe, transatlantic relations and Greek-Turkish relations. The Mission of the CIES is to pursue applied, policy-oriented research, build capacity and to promote knowledge on both horizontal and geographical issues and concerns. The CIES promotes activities that are sustainable both in terms of their funding and over the long term. These include training seminars, symposiums for young professionals, undergraduate and graduate students and experts and research projects which enhance the expertise of the Centre in its priority areas.

During the research activity, the Fellow will be in direct communication with the Director of the CIES on topics of international relations and regional dynamics in the Black Sea Region and the Caucasus. This research would entail mutual interest to both; the drafting of short policy papers; the adding of content to the CIES’ website; the participation in CIES activities, conferences, and workshops, where appropriate. The fellow would also have access to the other members of the Department of International Relations for his/her research needs as well as access to the library resources of Kadir Has University.

For the duration of the Fellowship, the fellow would be considered a full member of the CIES and would be assigned the title of Research Fellow, including a bio sketch on the Centre’s website.
