Association of Sports and Body Movement for Social Empowerment - BoMoVu is a one-year old association working in Turkey using sports and body movement for the social empowerment of vulnerable groups. We consider physical activity as a right and we work for the access of all to this right. BoMoVu is looking for fellows for;
- Reconciliation Games (Barışa Oyna) in Western Caucasus program development in Armenian language and cooperation with Armenian NGOs,
- Organising activities for Critical Sports program,
- Supporting development of Queer Village project.
According to profile and the experience of the fellow, we have different proposals to be working together:
- We want to try develop the Reconciliation Games (Barış Oyna) program toolkit into Armenian language and to initiate cooperation with Armenian NGOs working in border areas with Turkey. That program was developed and implemented by the BoMoVu team in Kars and Ardahan for the benefit of children with the aim to tackle subjects around the matter of borders and human relations.
- The Critical Sports program is a way to implement sports activities with a different perspective through sensitiveness over discrimination. Now we organise feminist muay thai box trainings. We want to have larger diversity of this type of program. If the fellow has knowledge on a sports or any performing arts, this practice can implemented with a critical point of view, with a social sensitivity.
- Queer Village is a project that we are working on with a network of NGOs and it is still only a dream. We will need help to organise this program in order to “queer the Armenia-Turkey dialogue”.
Other than this, the fellow will take part in the usual daily life of the organisation, working from office with the staff present, and coming up with creative ideas. We are a very small organisation but very open to new things.
EXPECTED PROFILE
The fellow should have reading, writing and speaking English language skills, be self-motivated and enthusiastic in a free working context, be sensitive and aware of gender related issues, racism, civil initiatives, and activism. The fellow is not expected to be a practitioner of sports her/himself. Knowledge about project development is preferable.
CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
As BoMoVu is a newly established association working on a voluntary basis, the fellow should have high motivation and is expected to conduct his/her fellowship activity from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. with flexibility when going to Turkish lessons or doing fieldwork. The holidays can be discussed and agreed upon according to local and Armenian holidays on a general basis of combinable 2 days/month.
The fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.
