İstanbul Bilgi University Center for Migration Research (CMR), established in 2001, has formulated its mission to support new research and joint projects, to strengthen institutional co-ordination among researchers through several networking activities, and to develop reliable data based on research findings that can contribute to realistic policy and decision-making processes in migration studies. CMR has been conducting research projects and activities on diverse forms of migration (urban-rural, labor, forced, international and seasonal) and related social issues with an interdisciplinary perspective. CMR organizes conferences, seminars and similar events on these issues as well as continues a series of panels on migration and literature since 2010. Center for Migration Research also functions as an information center for students, researchers, academicians and NGO practitioners working or studying on migration and social cohesion. Since its establishment, CMR has conducted research projects on several topics such as Euro-Turks in Germany, France and Belgium, language acquisition of children in the context of migration and multilingualism, forced migration in Turkey, othering processes of youth in Turkey, seasonal migrant agricultural workers.
- Research on migration between Armenia-Turkey or from the region to Turkey
The research subject of the fellow may be in terms of current mobility or movements in historical context with a focus on reasons, forms, processes and consequences of migration. It may approach the topic from diverse perspectives, including but not limited to societal relations, political framework or economic context.
- Center for Migration Research will host the fellow to assist his/her research.
- CMR will provide its related expertise and communication database for the fellow’s research.
- CMR may ask from the fellow for contribution to current projects or activities.
- The fellow will be asked to hold a paper presentation / lecture on the research subject.
EXPECTED PROFILE
- Researchers at MA, PhD, or post-doc level in Social Sciences (International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology)
- The fellow should be at his/her research/dissertation semester.
- The research may apply qualitative or quantitative methods.
- For candidates at MA level, no special research expertise is required.
CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Offices of CMR will be available for the fellow for 3 days a week between the hours 09.00-17.00.
The fellowship will be implemented in Istanbul, Turkey.
PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP
8 months between October 2017 and June 2018
