“The A. D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Centre” NGO aims to support the building of civil society and the development of democratic institutions in Armenia. The Centre is looking for professionals in the fields of civil society and human rights protection.
The fellow is expected to conduct lectures and debates, training and seminars on “Civil Society” and “Human Rights Protection” topics. Still in 2003, in the frames of the project “Civil Society Strengthening in the Regions of the Republic of Armenia”, “The A. D. Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Centre” NGO has founded the “Civil Society School” (hereinafter referred to as School) in Gyumri city (Shirak region, RA), Gavar city (Gegharkunik region, RA) and Goris city (Syunik region, RA).
There are four groups of listeners in each School;
- Representatives of local beginner (young) NGOs and mass media and officials of local self-government bodies study in Group 1 (Core training for beginner NGOs);
- People with experience study in Group 2 (Advanced training);
- Group 3 is for training trainers (ToT);
- Group 4 is alternative trainings in conformance with topics chosen by listeners (Alternative Training).
The School has got vocational groups as well, for instance with the participation of teachers-listeners. The main goal of our School is to make civil society structures and individuals in Armenia active, make them legally conscious and active citizens, help them to be initiators. The specialists/experts/trainers of our School are mainly from Armenia. They have different professions and experience, work in different spheres, but, whenever possible and in the frames of the projects, our organisation can invite international experts and specialists from other countries as well. Our organisation, as a host organisation in the scope of this project, wishes to host a specialist with the skills and experience in training on topics of civil society and human rights protection, who can conduct trainings about 4 (four) months in all the 4 groups of Gyumri “Civil Society School”. Each group has its thematics. The guest specialist should conduct lectures on the following topics:
- What is civil society, its typical features, how it develops in the world (international experience), preconditions, essence and elements of its existence, attributes and core values, institutes, peculiarities of state and civil society, their relations; NGOs as social partners of the government; the role of media, social networks and internet in the process of forming civil society, its advantages and disadvantages, objectives and challenges in our region.
- Human rights protection in the world, human rights, freedoms and responsibilities. Political and civil rights which include classical fundamental rights, such as right to religion and belief, freedom of speech, etc.
- Economic, social and cultural rights, such as rights to food, labour, asylum and education.
- Collective rights, reasonable limits of organising and conducting peaceful assembly and its limitation.
- Rights to participation in processes of adopting laws, decrees and other legal acts on people's and groups' freedom of information and rights to use access to justice.
- Human dignity as the basic concept for human rights theory.
- Human rights and national values.
- National and international mechanisms of human rights protection, etc.
EXPECTED PROFILE
- Education: Higher education, political scientist, lawyer, sociologists, specialist in political technology, media expert.
Full name of the educational institution, educational degree/certificate, education dates, titles of works and publications, dates and language.
- Professional background: Professional work experience, volunteer work, practice. Position title, name of the organisation, incumbency dates. Main responsibilities.
- Language: English
- Other: The guest specialist should submit his/her CV in English and certificates of professional titles (if existing).
CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY
The fellow is expected be present at the office from Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 17.00. The guest specialist will be based at the office of Shirak regional branch of “The A.D.Sakharov Armenian Human Rights Centre” NGO which is provided with all working conditions, and the lectures will be conducted in the same office.
The fellowship will be implemented in Gyumri, Armenia.
