On Saturday, 16th of December, the International Education Programs Coordinator of Zachor Foundation for Social Rememberance, Jilian Lipman will conduct a workshop which has a special focus on testimony and memory. Zachor Foundation for Social Remembrance’s mission is to raise the awareness of educators and students of diverse backgrounds on the issues like anti-semitism, racism and prejudice. During this workshop, two activities will be conducted by using I Witness website. I Witness is an educational website developed by USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education that provides access to more than 1,500 full life histories, testimonies of survivors and witnesses to the Holocaust and other genocides for guided exploration.
The activities that will be conducted within the scope of the workshop that will be organized on Saturday, 16th of December between 16:00-18:00 are:
- Anti-Semitism and the Bystander Effect: In the first activity, students watch testimonies from survivors and witnesses of historical and contemporary antimsemitism and talk about the topic of bystanders. In the end, students construct a social media message for the #BeginsWithMe campaign to counter bystander behavior.
- Witnessing Jim Crow: Some survivors who immigrated to the United States encountered racism and prejudice and grappled with its repercussions in a variety of ways. This module will examine the testimonies of survivors of the Holocaust who resettled to the United States and will examine the repercussions of racism and race-based prejudice.
- The number of participants is limited to 15 people. The priority will be given to the students.
- The workshop will be conducted in English language.
- The participants are expected to bring a laptop and earphones. Limited number of laptops will be provided to the participants who are unable to bring a laptop.
