Istanbul Bilgi University Center for Migration Research (BILGI-MIGRATION), established in 2002, has formulated its mission to support new research and joint projects, to strengthen institutional co-ordination among researchers through several networking activities, and to develop reliable data based on research findings that can contribute to realistic policy and decision-making processes in migration studies. BILGI-MIGRATION has been conducting research projects and activities on diverse forms of migration (urban-rural, labour, forced, international and seasonal) and related social issues with an interdisciplinary perspective. The Center functions as an information centre for students, researchers, academicians and NGO practitioners working or studying migration and social cohesion. Since its establishment, BILGI-MIGRATION has conducted research projects on several topics including among others the researches on Euro-Turks in Germany, France and Belgium, language acquisition in the context of migration and multilingualism, forced migration in Turkey, othering processes of youth and polarization in Turkey, seasonal migrant agricultural workers, child well-being, and child labour.

AREA / SUBJECT OF THE FELLOWSHIP

Fellows are expected to be engaged in studies relating to migration in the region, polarization, social justice, or social inclusion. The topic may be approached from diverse perspectives, including but not limited to societal relations, political framework or economic context.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED FELLOWSHİP ACTIVITY

  • BILGI-MIGRATION will host the fellow to assist his/her research.
  • BILGI-MIGRATION will provide its related expertise and communication database for the fellow’s research.
  • BILGI-MIGRATION may ask the fellow for contribution to its ongoing projects or activities.
  • The fellow is expected to hold a paper presentation/seminar on his/her research subject.
  • The fellow is expected to write a working paper or a brief report about his/her research track.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Researchers at Ph.D. or post-doc level in social sciences (Political Science, International Relations, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology).
  • The research may apply qualitative or quantitative methods.
  • Candidates with a published article(s) will be preferred.
  • Good command of English.

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Based on the requirements of the study, the fellowship may involve 2-3 days of office work per week. Based on the timing of the fellowship, office premises will be offered to the fellow within the capacity. Access to the university library will be provided.

PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP

One month between April 2020 and May 2021 upon the agreement of the fellow and the host.
