Foundation for Society and Legal Studies (TOHAV) was founded by 46 lawyersregistered in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir Bar Associations in October 1994 inIstanbul.

TOHAV is a non-governmental, independent, impartial, non-political and civilsociety organization established under the Turkish Civil Code.Members of TOHAV consist of lawyers registered in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir,Diyarbakır, Batman, Van and Malatya Bar Associations. TOHAV carries out itsactivities through member and voluntary lawyers and physicians working in thefield of torture and rehabilitation.

TOHAV's Headquarter is located in Istanbul. It has a Board of Directors consisting of 7 principal and 7 substitute member lawyers and a Supervisory Board consisting of 3 principal and 3 substitute member lawyers. Members of the board of directorsand Supervisory Board are elected by members of TOHAV for a period of two years.

AREA / SUBJECT OF THE FELLOWSHIP

The area of the fellowship activities are Human rights violations in all regions of Turkey without any kind of discrimination on the ground of race, sex, religion, ethnicity, and political thought and so on.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED FELLOWSHİP ACTIVITY

  • The fellow sall; assist project coordinator for TOHAV’s ongoing project “Empowering CSOsand Sparking Change for Tackling Discrimination and Promoting Diversity”.
  • Write and develop new project proposal for future projects.
  • Engaging in the network fo TOHAV

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • The fellow should have BA degree at social sciences. Having MA or Ph.D. degree will be an asset.
  • At least one year experience in a NGO (relevant field such as in human rights, law,social sciences, or humanities).
  • Knowledge of human rights issues and ability to identify related problems intheir political, ethnic, gender equality and socio-economic dimensions.
  • Demonstrable organizational, communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of project work; writing project proposal, narrative and financialreport.
  • The fellow shall have fluent knowledge of English. Fluent knowledge of Turkish and/or Kurdishis a plus.

The office hours are Monday to Friday 10:00-17:00
