Medyascope is an online news channel, broadcasting 10 hours live per day and 7 days a week. It is an independent media outlet currently employing 40 journalists with offices in Istanbul, Ankara and Diyarbakır. Founded in 2015 by journalist Ruşen Çakır, Medyascope does journalism compatible with universal standards and currently fills the void created by the absence of a mainstream media.

Our objectives:

1. to do independent broadcasting compatible with universal standards;
2. to defend freedom of speech and contribute to the efforts to uphold this and all other fundamental human rights;
3. to create a platform for journalists and academics who are out of their jobs due to political pressure;
4. to create a platform for NGOs to disseminate their work;
5. to contribute to the proliferation of new media tools;
6. to create an education platform for young journalists;
7. to create job opportunities for young journalists.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED FELLOWSHİP ACTIVITY

The selected fellow can contribute to Medyascope’s content production by shooting and editing videos, assisting news research, writing text news and doing live shows in our studios. All content will go through Medyascope’s editorial process. The content production can be in English, French, German and Kurdish as well. The fellow can also use Medyascope’s network for his/her own research.

EXPECTED PROFILE

The fellow is expected to be preferably a journalist or a person who has had some kind of journalistic experience. Academics, university students (preferably in social sciences) are also welcome. 

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The office hours are between 10:00 and 18:00 during weekdays; however, the channel is active 7 days a week. The exact schedule of the fellowship is to be decided upon mutual agreement between the fellow and the host organisation.
