The Center for International and European Studies (CIES) at Kadir Has University was established in 2004 as the Center for European Union Studies to study Turkey’s European Union accession process. Since September 2010, it has been transformed by widening its focus in order to pursue applied, policy-oriented research, build capacity and to promote knowledge on both horizontal and geographical issues and concerns. Our objectives are to increase understanding, raise awareness, promote debate and enhance cooperation in our focus areas including foreign policy, security, regional cooperation, governance, youth leadership, and sustainable development, inter alia, with a wide geographical focus on the European Union, its Eastern, South-eastern and Southern Neighbourhoods, Turkey, the United States, and Asia. Our team includes an experienced director, 3 senior associates, 5 research associates, a project coordinator, and an office administrator.

AREA / SUBJECT OF THE FELLOWSHIP

Fellowship activity will focus on one of the following research areas at the CIES:

  • Foreign policy
  • Security
  • Regional cooperation
  • Governance
  • Youth leadership
  • Sustainable development

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED FELLOWSHİP ACTIVITY

The fellowship activity will entail the exchange of knowledge and expertise, development of joint projects, doing research and analysis, and giving a lecture as a guest lecturer. The fellow will also have the chance to build a network among the other members of the Department of International Relations for his/her research needs as well as access to the library resources of Kadir Has University.

For the duration of the Fellowship, the fellow would be considered a full member of the CIES and would be assigned the title of Research Fellow, including a bio-sketch on the Center’s website.

EXPECTED PROFILE

  • Ph.D. graduates, senior experts, and academics in the field of international relations and politics;
  • Have expertise in one or two of the following areas: foreign policy, security, regional cooperation, governance, youth leadership, and sustainable development;
  • Fluent spoken and written English;
  • Experience in doing research and analysis;
  • Ability to work in a team;
  • Willing to work in an international environment.

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The Center for International and European Studies (CIES) at Kadir Has University is open during the weekdays from 08:30 till 17:30. The exact schedules of the programme can be adjusted in consultation with the director.

The Center is closed on weekends and national holidays.

PROPOSED TIME FOR THE FELLOWSHIP

The fellowship activity shall take place anytime between March 2020 – May 2021 (except July and August 2020).
