SALT is a cultural institution in public service producing research-based exhibitions, publications, web and digitization projects, as well as developing programs including screenings, conferences and workshops in Istanbul and Ankara. Aiming to offer an environment for debate and co-learning with its users and collaborators, SALT does not engage in formal arguments or favor one period, discipline or object-based practice over another.

SALT focuses on art, architecture and design, and social and economic histories. The research projects, visual presentations, international publications and local archival collections at SALT expand beyond linear chronologies, medium-based questions, and the traditional separation of fields of study.

• Armeno-Turkish Language Experts and Ottoman Historians specialized in the 19th century

DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED FELLOWSHİP ACTIVITY

SALT Research is looking for an expert to work on the American Board for Commissioners for Foreign Mission Archive (ABCFMA) and more particularly on the Armenian Protestant Community of the Ottoman Empire. She/He will focus on the documents written in Armenian to explore life in the 19th and early 20th centuries in several Anatolian cities with a significant Armenian population.

EXPECTED PROFILE 

An expert specialized in Armeno-Turkish (Turkish written in Armenian Script) and in Armenian handwriting, to transcribe the manuscripts of the ABCFMA into English. Excellent command of English is therefore requested. Also, to assess the documents properly, historical knowledge on the Armenians in the 19th century Ottoman Empire will be an asset.

Working Days: At least three days a week
Working Hours: 9:00-18:00
Holidays: Weekends and national holidays
