PROPOSED FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

KOÇ-KAM was established in March 2010 as a multidisciplinary research and implementation centre. Academics and researchers from many different departments, including sociology, social psychology, law, philosophy, political science, history and visual arts, have come together to share their studies and carry out joint national and international research projects as well as scientific and educational activities in and outside the university on gender and women. Functioning as a centre for gender studies, KOÇ-KAM has a research awards programme that supports outstanding research projects, and a Gender Certificate Programme for students of the Koç University. With conferences, panels and seminars frequently organized and hosted, the Centre introduces multidisciplinary gender related studies to those interested in the area, and encourages communication on gender issues between academics, students, civil society actors, artists and policy makers.

KOÇ-KAM’s affiliated faculty and researchers came together with a common interest to foster debate and create awareness of gender issues in Turkey and elsewhere as well as to collaborate on their gender-related research which becomes only stronger when an interdisciplinary and multi-methodological perspective is endorsed.

Our main research areas include but not limited to the following:

  • Family, gender, self and human development
  • Women’s human rights
  • Gender, law and politics
  • Feminism, feminist theory and philosophy
  • Women’s movements, participation and democracy

EXPECTED PROFILE

KOÇ-KAM will welcome a researcher from Armenia who is working on gender issues, who wants to run a scientific research project in one of the research areas specified above, and who wants to start his/her research in Turkey or carry out a significant portion of it in Turkey. It would be positive if the research provides a comparative viewpoint between the two countries with regard to gender issues.

The fellow is expected to be a doctorate student, postdoctoral researcher or academic from a university in Armenia.

Academics of KOÇ-KAM will advise the research of the fellow. In case the research topic of the fellow coincides with the areas of interest or study topics of academics and researchers affiliated with the centre, it may be possible to collaborate in carrying out the project and preparing it for publication. The fellow is expected to provide a short abstract (subject, aims, methodology and calendar) of his/her research during application.

The researcher must be proficient in English.

CONDITIONS OF THE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

The fellow is expected to participate in KOÇ-KAM meetings and take part in and contribute to other activities and projects of the centre depending on his/her level of interest. Conditions of the fellow will be determined in consideration of the timetable of the research, the conditions at the university, and the needs of both the institution and the fellow.
