Gaziantep Ekspres, March 10, 2017

In Gaziantep Ekspres newspaper’s article titled “When is the urban transformation?”, it is stated: “People are reacting against the Syrian refugees who escaped from the war in their country and took shelter in Turkey. Residents of Yaprak and Çakmak neighborhoods complain about Syrian refugees. Citizens say, 'Syrians came and the unemployment increased. Our children are unemployed, while they have jobs. They make so much noise during the night that we cannot sleep. They even open shops. They don't pay any tax. We cannot walk in the streets comfortably with our children. After they came, criminal incidents increased. Police forces are at a loss. We want a solution for Syrians.'” With these remarks, Syrians are labeled as a socioeconomic threat and associated with crime.

The newspaper, with an understanding of journalism that is not based on rights, doesn't cover Syrians' points of view and feelings, whereas it emphasizes the complaints of a group of residents. In this way, it escalates the existent prejudice and hatred against Syrians.

They rape our wives and daughters.” With these remarks, he labels Christians as the enemy and provokes the readers against them.
