Burası Çanakkale, March 8, 2020

Nami Tonka, in his article, quotes from Süleyman Nazif’s article titled “Rus Kimdir? Moskof Nedir?’’ [Who are Russians? What is Muscovite?]: “Muscovite’s peace is deceptive, silence is rabid, smile is treacherous, help is humiliating. Oh the son of Turk! The ones who gave the blood in your veins fought to the last drop of their blood in Muscovite wars. Whoever you are and will be, don’t you ever forget that you are the orphan of those martyrs! This purpose, this grudge and this vengeance are their holy heritage to you like this religion, state and motherland. As long as Russia and Russians exist in this world, defer to this right and duty, the son of Turk. Your right is to kill and your duty is to die!” He writes that he gives this passage to his students for studying in terms of ethical values and that his purpose is to teach that “Russians, against whom we fight once every three years a small war and once every ten years a major war, cannot be trusted and we must always be on guard.” As it is understood, he agrees in the racist ideas of the quoted author. Then, he uses openly hostile discourse concerning several identities, when he writes about the coalition that he claims to be formed for oil and gas in the Mediterranean: “Anglo-Saxon, German, Greek, Arab, Jew hand in hand…”
